How do i get my FHI flat iron not to smell?

i got my FHI flat iron this past christmas...already it has the smell when you turn it on...and i don't know how to make it not smell..How do i get my FHI flat iron not to smell?
Use a disinfecting wipe ( when the iron is off). I always had to do that.How do i get my FHI flat iron not to smell?
mine does too i've been told its a buildup of hair oils. the only thing i've found to diminish the odor was to spray a heat protectant spray on it before running it through my hair
