why is it dangerous to plug a 1200w hair dryer to a 11amp extension wire? please help meWhy is it dangerous to plug a 1200w hair dryer to a 11amp extension wire?
1200 means that it is going to draw quite a bit of current from the national grid.
I always believe that an electrical wire can be compared with water going through pipes in most cases.
If you have alot of water going through a water pipe, sooo much that it can't handle it. The pipe will burst.
It's sort of the same with the wire.
Electrons are what flow through wires. These electrons are banging into impuritiess in the wire, so to speak. Therefore creating friction. (Rub your hands together to see the result of friction - which is indeed heat). Therefore now you have heat being outputted from the wire. This can melt the plastic coating, and worse casescenarioo cause a fire.
Hope this explains it.
